The Exceptional Details

About this yarn

Mericash is the companion to our Eco Cashmere. It blends the same responsibly made cashmere that defines our signature yarn with extrafine merino wool, resulting in a yarn that is softer than pure merino and livelier than pure cashmere. The merino gives the yarn its spring. The cashmere gives it its softness. Together, they produce a fabric that holds its shape in ways pure cashmere cannot, with the halo and hand that make cashmere worth knitting with.

Where our Eco Cashmere drapes and blooms, Mericash holds and defines. It is our choice for cardigans, cabled sweaters, and any project where stitch clarity matters.

The craft of Prato

Mericash is spun in Prato by the same family-owned mill that produces our Eco Cashmere. Prato is the Italian textile district that has been regenerating wool and cashmere for more than a century. The craft was pioneered there by the cenciaioli, artisans who built an entire industry around the idea that good material deserves more than one life. Our mill is part of that tradition. Every skein is spun by people whose families have worked with recovered fiber for generations.

Responsibly made, thoughtfully blended

The cashmere in Mericash is our Eco Cashmere, certified under the Cardato Recycled protocol. Cardato is an independent third-party certification administered by the Chamber of Commerce of Prato and audited by SGS, requiring a minimum of 65% regenerated fiber content and full life cycle documentation.

The cashmere itself comes from pre-consumer mill waste and post-consumer garments that would otherwise be discarded. The fiber is sorted by hand, separated by color and grade, and mechanically shredded back into usable form. Because sorting is done by shade, most shades require no dyeing at all. Darker colors are dyed using methods compliant with the Greenpeace Detox protocol.

The extrafine merino is sourced through supplier relationships our mill has maintained for decades, spun alongside the cashmere at the same Prato facility. The finished yarn contains approximately 25% recycled cashmere content by weight. The merino adds durability and natural temperature regulation, and its longer fiber length reinforces the shorter cashmere fibers for a yarn that holds its shape and softens with wear.

How it knits

Mericash knits into a smooth, even fabric with beautiful stitch definition. It blooms gently after blocking, though less dramatically than pure cashmere, giving finished pieces a more defined silhouette and sharper cable or lace work.

The DK weight knits at a slightly tighter gauge than our Eco Cashmere due to the merino content. Swatch generously when substituting for a pattern written in standard DK.

Care
